Alice - a work in progress

This is one of the paintings that I am currently working on (amid many others)...and although i have completed more of it than shown I kinda like this crop.  This is a painting I intend to finish although I keep going back on it and trying new things - colours, tones and textures etc..

Hope you like it - crits welcome.

Patrick.

I love the softness of this Patrick and the emphisis is just where it ought to be ...on the face. I like it just the way it is. 5.

jason clark says:

wow! she is so very beautiful! I love the colour pallet you have used, and the eyes are such a great colour! thank you for the comment! I took my time a bit more and took more breaks and it really helped.

Wow you have been busy. This is superb. What kind of crits are there???

Posted 111 months ago

AnneHale says:

Awesome. Love the softness and I would not change a thing. Do you use airbrushes to create this softness?

Posted 111 months ago

ZenR says:

Hi Guys - thanks for the comments and observations - Anne, I used a mixture of blenders, the airbrush & oil pastels..i think.

RT says:

Whenever you post these wip images Patrick, I always think they are wonderful the way they are, then you do some more work and they are even more beautiful. So I can't wait to see the finished item. Will save my 5 for then.

PIerre says:

You really have an awesome touch with you artwork. Your women turn out to have godess-like beauty.

Posted 111 months ago

ZenR says:

Thanks Pierre. Achieving this look with your art is not too difficult to do...it's the time it takes. I practice a lot with portraits because I feel comfortable with them. They just happen to be women because: A. I like them. B. I don't want to stare at men all day.

Posted 111 months ago

PIerre says:

I understand.

jason clark says:

I keep looking at your paintings and I am trying to work out how you capture beauty! Iby looking at your images the eyes seem to be the real atraction! do you draw from models or these original characters?

dc-nightshade says:

I love the pale, simple, angelic beauty - an ice maiden in a modest white gown. Her left shoulder (on the right as you look at the painting) seems detached from the rest of her body; the colour just seems a little off.

Posted 111 months ago

ZenR says:

Thanks Pierre, Jason - DC...the shoulder colours and shoulder itself were created to accommodate shadows and a layer of lace for the blouse. The pink tinge is the skin colour showing through the translucent material. If i get around to posting the image with the work done since then you can see. Cheers DC.

ZenR says:

Hi Apryl - thanks for the comment. Are you any closer to posting a new piece yet? It would be nice to see you continue with your work.

Posted 111 months ago

dc-nightshade says:

Ah, I can see where you're going with that... I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Posted 111 months ago

ZenR says:

I am sure i will post the finished image if i get time to finish it DC, thanks.

jason clark says:

hahaha I just had a read of your comments. yes I agree that it is so much better to be producing beautiful woman all day lol. I think woman tend to be more powerful and seductive than a guy ever can! thanks again for the comment! makes me work harder.

Posted 111 months ago

jason clark says:

wow! thank you! thats the reason I am on this site! thank you so much for that comment! crits like that is what I would like and makes me work harder! I use jet black for the eye lashes and they do not look as real as I want! ill give them the softer approach on the image that I am sketching up now! as for the resolutions I work at a very hight 2000! better to be safe the sorry when it comes to the size! I have had to reproduce 45 hours of college work so I have learnt the hard way lol. thanks so much and keep up the great work

Posted 111 months ago

ZenR says:

Your welcome Jason - keep up the good work!

Posted 111 months ago

jason clark says:

I have taken your advice and gone for a more soft approach on my eyebrows and lashes and it really dose make a difference! I also studied my eyes in the mirror which helped with the detailing of the eye! I added a very light blue to the light parts of the face which has made her look a bit more dark but still beautiful!

jason clark says:

I new I had forgotten something! I haven't saved it as a jpeg yet so Ill give it another try at a later date as I am on a very challenging piece at the moment! and yes I am really starting to enjoy painting as I am more confident, and in being confident I find that my brush strokes seem to be more confidant too! I have trouble in the back grounds of my images as I never have any ideas! I cant do perspective! its so easy yet I cant do it! as well as learning the human anatomy which is going ok but still lots of trouble! And also the girl friend hates me painting for hours grrrr! lol. thanks so much for the advice again!

jason clark says:

hi patrick, sorry to keep bothering you but I am having trouble with my new image! I have spent hours and hours on it and I do not know if I should carry it on! may I ask what you think of it so far as I am really hating it. And again sorry for being a pest! lol

kobi says:

Patrick, once again, your work is extraordinary. I know you'll find ways to make this even more amazing than it is at this point...but, I'D call it done!! You've particularly done a remarkable job with the subtle tones and similar colors of hair and background. A masterful study of light and shadow. Much can be learned by fellow painters looking closely at this one.

Posted 109 months ago

ZenR says:

Kobi, thanks for the compliments and comments you gave on this picture, unfortunately I have been so busy with other things, that i myself have not had the time to visit the site as often as i would like to. Patrick
