I agree with the others concerning your brush work in the beard. This image by its very structure has an intensity to it. The great concentration in the face of the subject. Lost in thought makes us the viewer wonder what captivates hims so. His long life of experiences. Is he thinking of a time long past when he was young and in love? Or is is he worried of his children's struggles wishing they make the right decisions. We just are not sure but we share his moment of concern. Pondering wonderment. You certainly caught all that here. Also composition wise you are definitely using a triangular composition effectively to frame your subject and create a controlled center of interest.

Beautifully done! I don't even want to think of the work you must have put into the beard alone. A few of the artists here belong in their own master's class, you are one of them. 5

I have three sisters that are also artists, and my Mother is an artist as well. One of my sisters loves to paint old people because she finds the wrinkles interesting. Its certainly challenging to paint as well. If you dont handle the wrinkles right they you end up giving them a face lift on the canvas and make them look years younger but alas lose the character that makes them unique. You have caught the character in this painting very well. There are some new paint brushes in the new CS5 version of Photoshop. I have seen some demos but have not had a chance to try any of them. I am not sure even how they work at this point. I am not sure how they are different from Corel Painter brushes. Well when it comes down to it Corel Painter is my program of choice for doing paintings, I feel its closest to the real mediums. And its great to stop and not have to clean up a mess. I do find that I get lost sometimes in the layers on complex projects if its been a while and I go back to them. What was I doing? I think to myself. Good luck and waiting for your next painting.
