Yuki Onna

It was a challenge to make this for Azurylipfe's deviantart competition 'The Jurei'
I had to read up about japanese ghosts!
Yuki-onna is winter personified. She is at the same time beautiful and serene, yet ruthless in her killing of unsuspecting mortals. Until the 18th century, she was almost uniformly portrayed as evil. Today, however, stories often colour her as more human, emphasizing her ghostlike nature and ephemeral beauty.
In many stories, Yuki-onna reveals herself to travelers who find themselves trapped in snowstorms and uses her icy breath to leave them as frost-coated corpses. Other times, she manifests holding a child. When a well-intentioned soul takes the "child" from her, he or she is frozen in place.
I chose this because I'm rubbish at doing VERY dark things
The girl is based on a photo of the model Devon Aoki. Right arm :jealousy1314:
left arm and baby :dheks:

As always a fantastic work of art and a great detailed description. It's nice to see someone researching their work in such depth before approaching and painting the subject.

I think you've pulled off the "dark" subject and added a great deal of mystery! could have also been interesting to see part of her body transparent, including the ghost aspect of the story. But as it is is works to. Love the coloring.

She is definitely ruthless and cold to the core...darkly beautiful. I agree with Lynne about the hint of transparency (perhaps on the right hand, because I wouoldn't want the trees in the background to interfere with her unfeeling facial expression) but, all in all another masterful piece.

Actually, it feels a bit transparent because of the depth of the snow falling in front of her. The smaller flakes look distant yet we see them through her. Beautiful.

..a chilling, seductive and thought inspiring work. In fact, I must add, your entire gallery is overwhelming. With each picture, the sense of depth and richness of your technique is, to say the least-Magnificant!
