I'm attempting to learn all the brush and media espressions Painter X has delivered. This is my try at pastels...PS, P and PS. Using a David Black/ImageBase photo supplied when I worked the tutorials in Brad Buttry's Virtual Pastels CD course—which I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to dramatically improve their PhotoShop painting skills. I just did some of the recommended steps in Painter instead of PS, because I like the more natural look and feel of the brushes.

This is awesome - I like your choice of yellow to create contrast around the head and how the blue jacket fades into the blue background! :-)

really good work kobi! 5...question; i am using painter 9.5, is there a dramatic step up in the version 10? and ditto, the before n after really helps us appreciate the effort behind the work.

Great job Kobi. I have both Brad's dvd's (the other one is on oil painting) and really enjoyed the techniques. I find I like to combine the oil and the pastel techniques.

Love it!!!!!! Fabulous work, madear!! This one is such a "5". Actually, there should be something higher than a "5" for this one. It's very special! The brush work, color, everything, a perfect Painer example.

Thank you one and all...I guess all the effort learning new things does have its rewards! I really do appreciate the comments you all have taken the time to post here. One of the things I like best about Painter is being able to simulate traditional media, as well as creating something new or different by combining them on the screen.

I know I've already commented on this gorgeous painting, but I just had to have another look at it, I especially like the eyes, I think this should be picture of the week!!!!

Posted 123 months ago

kobi says:

Thanks Stan. And, Sandria that's a very nice compliment, however, coming back for a second look is honor enough. I don't know the origin of the subject in the photo, but wouldn't be surprised if he weren't from Afgahistan...in pictures I have seen, they all seem to have particularly beautiful eyes.

Oh wow, I've got the same guy on my computer now as I work through Brad's tutorial... now I'm even more intimidated when I see your Fantastic rendering. I too am switching into Painter for favorite brushes. A big +5 for this painting.

I keep coming back to this image. It really is excellent Kobi. You should do more.

Posted 122 months ago

kobi says:

Leslie, thank you, but it' just takes keeping at it...and as if by magic, suddenly one day it all makes sense. Adjust to the painting, rather than the subject. Paul...I'm painting as fast as I can!! And that limits me to about one or two a day...how about you?

Nice work, how long did it take you to paint approx?

Posted 101 months ago

kobi says:

I have no idea how long it took. I started one evening and finished the next day. Now that I don't have to keep track of my time for "billing purposes" I just don't keep track of time. But, if I were to guess...probably 5 to 7 hours.
